He married MARY MCGILL inCounty Donegal,IrelandShe was born in County Donegal, Ireland, and died in Clonleigh Parish, Co. Donegal, Ireland. Notes for AUGUSTINE MCCORKELL:have done quite a bit of research on the McCorkell family in Ireland and have uncovered various branches. I think I may have discovered where in Donegal your Augustine hailed, no detailed records but strongcircumstantial evidence. Almost all McCorkells I have researched in Ireland are of Presbyterian stock, the exceptions I can usually trace to an earlier generation where the parent or grandparent was Presbyterian. There is one branch however where the family seem to have been Roman Catholic from at least the late 18C. Augustus McCorkell appears in the Griffith Valuation 1858 in the townland of CARRICKNASLATE in the Parish of CONLEIGH, Donegal. He rented 18 acres and was a farmer, he married a Jane Ward. In the same area in 1824 a Gustavius McCorkell appears in the Tithe records in the townland of PORTANURE, CLONLEIGH, as well as a Peter in CURRALANE, CLONLEIGH, probably a brother. Lastly in 1796 a Patrick McCorkell appears in the Flax Growers Bounty list for Donegal, again for the Parish of CLONLEIGH. I know that Augustus McCorkell was a Roman Catholic the names Patrick, Peter and Gustavius appear nowhere else in my research and would be considered native Irish names rather than Ulster-Scots, Scots-Irish to whom almost all other McCorkells I have researched prior to 1850 would have belonged. I have never heard Downpatrick in county Down county Down is quite a bit away (In Irish terms) especially i the 19C so I think Father Ed may have gotten confused with another place name Taking all theabove into consideration I feel it is highly likely that your Augustine McCorkell is part of this family and camefrom the parish of Clonleigh, County Donegal.
